Darby Miller

 aka

The Golden Youth

Date of Birth:  May 30, 1985

Marital Status:  Wez's lover

Position:  Part of the Elite Guard, the Humungus's most trusted Dogs of War

Character Traits:  Quiet, passive and obedient, he's used to spending more time in his mind than truly living.  Intelligent, creative and fiercely loyal, his meekness is seen as a weakness by some, but his positive attributes give him much courage that's present in his gentle strength. Always an observer, he prefers to wool-gather and sort through his questions by summarizing his conclusions in his thoughts.

He doesn't possess a temper but his frustrations do surface if he feels he's being disrespected or forced to go against his morals.  He fights a battle with his conscience since he desires Wez's love above anything else, so he performs and tolerates the brutal slayings of innocent people to please his master.

BACKGROUND

Born in the slums just before the Two Great Tribes go to war, Darby doesn't recall the civilized era or the Great City where his mother gave birth to him.  When the war intensified and the Main Force Control could no longer control the rate of crime due to lack of funds and bureaucratic red tape, the gangs began pillaging the city and taking over the streets.  Darby was only four when his father was murdered during a raid. After her husband's death, Mrs. Miller packed them up and fled to her brother's home.  Sensing the crime would only become more violent, Darby's uncle took charge, loading all their meager possessions into his '79 Ford Truck and they headed for the wasteland.  The uncle thought they'd stand a better chance of survival by leaving the over-populated, crime-infested city.

The uncle found an abandoned home where they could live.  Darby was kept in the cellar since wanderers would sometimes pay visits to the house for assistance.  Mrs. Miller feared for her only child's life because his magnetic beauty and innocent, enchanting, delicate manner made him stand out like a rose in the wasteland.  She dreaded having her son captured by one of the marauders and forced to be a sexual slave.  So Darby spent most of his time downstairs reading all the books his mother brought with her.

While playing outside at the age of fifteen, he didn't realize the Dogs of War, led by Wez, spent an entire afternoon watching him, all bewitched by his golden beauty.  The marauders raided the home that night and the only prize Wez sought was the golden youth.

After his uncle and mother were killed, Darby was taken captive by Wez and renamed the Golden Youth by his new master.  He became a member of the Dogs of War.  Read his story, The Birth of Evil, at the Fan Fiction section.
